The third quarter ended July 31, 2026. Net income was $1.4 million, or $0.12 a diluted share, against $1.3 million, or $0.11, a year earlier. Operating income rose 11.1% to $1.5 million and pre-tax income rose 16.0% to $1.8 million. The company ended the quarter with $31.7 million of cash, no debt and, for the first time, positive retained earnings.

Where the growth came from

Revenue grew because of the smaller businesses. Marine Technology, which the company calls its core business, fell 15.2% to $3.4 million from $4.0 million, after a 26.8% drop in the second quarter. The company tied the decline to reduced customer activity in the Middle East and parts of Asia after geopolitical instability there. Echoscope sonar products account for about 80% of Marine Technology revenue.

Defense Engineering Services grew 68.3% to $2.7 million from $1.6 million, following 37.9% growth in the second quarter. The shift shows up in the mix: Marine Technology was about 44% of revenue this quarter, against about 56% a year earlier.

The mix also shows up in margin. Gross margin was 65.4%, down from 68.3% a year earlier, which the company attributed to the type and geography of the quarter's sales. Profit still rose because the company runs a largely fixed cost base.

What management pointed to next

  • Early customer response to the newly launched Echoscope PIPE NANO Gen Series.
  • At least five customers working on integrating NANO systems into their underwater vehicles.
