Tesla reported on Friday, October 2, 2026 that it delivered 486,532 vehicles in the third quarter of 2026 and produced 464,391, alongside 13.7 GWh of energy storage deployments. Deliveries ran 22,141 vehicles ahead of production, so the quarter was supplied partly from cars built in earlier periods.

The release reached the wires shortly after 9:00 a.m. ET. Model 3 and Model Y accounted for 478,237 deliveries and 457,387 units of production. Other models accounted for 8,295 deliveries and 7,004 units of production. Tesla said it will post third-quarter financial results after the market close on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.

Deliveries were 2.1% below the 497,099 of the third quarter of 2025, which remains the company record, and above the 480,126 of the second quarter of 2026. The analyst consensus that Tesla compiles and circulates before each report stood at 461,974 deliveries, according to coverage published the same day, so the reported figure was 24,558 vehicles above it.

Tesla Q3 2026 deliveries vs production, quarter by quarter

The figures below come from Tesla's own quarterly production and deliveries releases. The gap column is deliveries minus production. A positive number means inventory fell during the quarter and a negative number means it rose.

The inventory arithmetic behind the delivery number

Tesla built 66,494 more vehicles than it delivered across the fourth quarter of 2025 and the first quarter of 2026. The two quarters since then have delivered 50,509 more than were built. Three quarters of that earlier build have now been worked through, and 15,985 vehicles of it remain on the four-quarter tally.

The inventory swing also changes the year-over-year comparison. Deliveries fell 2.1% from the third quarter of 2025, while production rose 3.8% over the same period. The record quarter a year earlier drew 49,649 vehicles out of inventory, more than twice the drawdown of the latest quarter. Measured by what the factories made, the third quarter of 2026 was the highest-output quarter of the five in the table.

The gap also sets a limit on how long deliveries can run ahead of output. With 15,985 vehicles of the earlier build left on this count, a delivery figure above the production figure in a later quarter would need either higher output or stock from before the fourth quarter of 2025.

The other models line

The category outside Model 3 and Model Y, which covers Model S, Model X and Cybertruck among others, delivered 8,295 vehicles. That is 48% below the 15,933 of a year earlier and the lowest of the five quarters shown. Production in the category was 7,004, down from 8,822 in the second quarter of 2026 and 13,775 in the first. These vehicles carry the highest prices in the range, so the mix of the 486,532 total leaned further toward Model 3 and Model Y than in any of the prior four quarters: the two volume models were 98.3% of deliveries, against 96.8% a year earlier.

Energy storage: a second quarter near the record

Storage deployments of 13.7 GWh were slightly above the 13.5 GWh of the second quarter and below the 14.2 GWh record from the fourth quarter of 2025. The first quarter of 2026 had dropped to 8.8 GWh. Summed over the last four quarters, deployments reached 50.2 GWh, compared with 46.7 GWh for calendar 2025.

Tesla's release repeats its standing caution that deliveries are one measure of financial performance among several, and that quarterly results depend on average selling price, cost of sales and foreign exchange. Those figures arrive with the October 21 report.
