EssilorLuxottica shares rose 14% on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, and by 10:05 GMT were heading for their largest one-day jump since 2008, Reuters reported. The Ray-Ban maker said third-quarter revenue grew 7.2% at constant exchange rates to €7.49 billion, above the €7.36 billion analysts expected, and for the first time it reported its wearables business on its own: AI glasses and Nuance Audio hearing glasses brought in €486 million, up 20%.

The rally came even though smart-glasses growth slowed. Wearables had grown by nearly 100% earlier in the year, and Reuters reported that sales of the Ray-Ban glasses made with Meta slowed from those rates. Investors focused instead on the much larger eyewear business, which drove the revenue beat. The shares had nearly halved from a record market value of €149 billion a year earlier, after worries about governance and about how far the young smart-glasses market could grow, so a clean quarter from the core business was enough to lift them sharply.

The core eyewear business carried the quarter

Direct to Consumer, the company's own stores such as Sunglass Hut and LensCrafters plus online sales, grew 10.6%, and comparable-store sales rose 6.8%. Myopia management lenses for children grew 24%, and the company said its traditional eyecare and medtech business grew by more than 6%. Professional Solutions, which sells frames and lenses to independent opticians and retail chains, grew only 3.4% after double-digit growth a year earlier. Revenue at current exchange rates rose 9.0%, faster than the constant-currency figure because currency moves added to the total this quarter. Over nine months, revenue reached €22.30 billion, up 8.9% at constant exchange rates.

What the wearables number shows

Until this quarter, investors had to estimate how much the Meta partnership was worth to EssilorLuxottica. The €486 million figure gives them a base, and the company also published last year's wearables figures in full. Bernstein noted that this sets up a harder comparison for the fourth quarter, and said a cautious message on that quarter made sense because Google plans to launch its Gemini AI glasses by the end of 2026. RBC said it sees the shares as attractively valued, with defensive qualities in a difficult consumer market.
