Amazon Went From $12 Billion to $18 Billion in Louisiana in Under Six Months
A third Shreveport campus takes the commitment to $18 billion. The pace of the revision says more than the total.
- Amazon raised its northwest Louisiana commitment to $18 billion, adding a third campus in Shreveport costing $6 billion.
- The original commitment was $12 billion, announced in February 2026 — a 50% increase in under six months.
- All three campuses are set to create 750 direct full-time jobs, about 1784 indirect jobs and up to 2250 construction jobs.

On 18 August 2026 Amazon raised its planned investment in northwest Louisiana to $18 billion, adding a third data centre campus in Shreveport at a cost of $6 billion. The figure to hold onto is not $18 billion. It is the interval: the company committed $12 billion in February 2026 and increased it by half in under six months.

A capital plan revised upward mid-flight
Data centre campuses are normally planned years ahead, because power, water and land have to be secured before anything is poured. Raising a regional commitment by $6 billion less than six months after setting it is not a normal planning cadence. It indicates demand arriving faster than the original plan assumed — the same pressure visible across the industry as capacity for artificial-intelligence workloads is contracted well ahead of being built.
The new campus sits at Resilient Technology Park in west Shreveport, joining two already planned across Caddo and Bossier parishes. STACK Infrastructure is the development partner and will develop and own the campuses; construction is targeted for completion around the middle of 2028.
The jobs arithmetic is worth reading carefully
All three campuses together are set to create 750 direct full-time roles — electricians, engineers and data centre specialists — plus roughly 1784 indirect jobs in the surrounding economy and up to 2250 construction jobs while the sites are built. The expansion itself accounts for 210 of the direct roles and 499 of the indirect ones.
Set $18 billion against 750 permanent jobs and the ratio is stark: this is among the most capital-intensive forms of development there is. That is the nature of the asset. A data centre is a building full of equipment that runs with very few people in it, which is why the local economic case rests more on construction activity, the tax base and utility investment than on headcount.
Power and water are the real constraints
Amazon is putting up to $400 million into public water infrastructure serving all three campuses, and says it coordinated with the regional utility to confirm grid capacity for both its own facilities and existing customers without shifting costs onto ratepayers.
Those two commitments are the substance of a modern data centre announcement. Cooling consumes water and computing consumes electricity, both drawn from systems shared with everyone else in the region. Whether a project of this size can be absorbed without raising local utility bills is the question that determines how the next expansion is received — and on the evidence of the last six months, another expansion is a reasonable thing to expect.
