Oportun Financial Corporation (OPRT) rose 7.096% in the fifteen minutes after its Q2 2026 report. The company outperformed the top end of its own guidance for both total revenue and adjusted EBITDA, which grew 56% year-over-year to $49 million; GAAP net income was about $9 million, up 24%, with diluted EPS of $0.17 and adjusted EPS of $0.42, up 35%.
Oportun is a fintech lender focused on credit-invisible and underserved consumers, offering credit, savings, and budgeting products. CEO Doug Bland credited a return to originations growth, a lower cost of capital, and continued expense discipline for the quarter. Credit quality improved meaningfully: the company's 30-plus day delinquency rate reached its lowest level since the fourth quarter of 2021, and the annualized net charge-off rate came in better than guided. Oportun also repaid $87.5 million of debt during the quarter.
One notable strategic shift: secured personal loans grew to $245 million, or 9% of owned principal balance, up from 7% a year earlier. Management says these loans generate roughly twice the revenue per loan of unsecured products, with substantially lower loss rates — a mix shift toward lower-risk lending that helps explain the improving credit metrics. Full-year 2026 guidance was raised, with Adjusted EBITDA now expected at $160-175 million and the net charge-off rate improved to 11.7% plus or minus 30 basis points.
