Trump Media and Crypto.com Killed Their $6.4 Billion Crypto Treasury Deal

Trump Media & Technology Group, Crypto.com, and Yorkville Acquisition Corp mutually scrapped a planned public company that would have accumulated and staked Crypto.com's CRO token. The companies called the market for these crypto-treasury vehicles saturated. CRO's price fell as a result.

  • Trump Media & Technology Group, Crypto.com, and Yorkville Acquisition Corp mutually terminated their planned business combination to form Trump Media Group CRO Strategy, Inc.
  • That entity would have gone public and used raised capital to buy and stake Crypto.com's CRO token; it carried up to $6.42 billion in disclosed funding capacity, most of it a $5 billion equity line of credit rather than committed cash.
  • Trump Media's interim CEO, Kevin McGurn, said the market for crypto treasury companies had become saturated, making the split logical for both sides.

Trump Media & Technology Group, Crypto.com, and Yorkville Acquisition Corp announced on August 7, 2026 that they were mutually terminating a planned public company called Trump Media Group CRO Strategy, Inc. The entity would have gone public through a SPAC (a special purpose acquisition company — a shell company that raises money first, then merges with a target business to take it public) and used the proceeds to buy and stake Crypto.com's CRO token, a strategy sometimes called a crypto treasury company: a public vehicle that exists mainly to hold a cryptocurrency on its balance sheet.

The deal had up to $6.42 billion in disclosed funding capacity attached to it, but that figure represented capacity to raise money, not cash already committed — most of it was a $5 billion equity line of credit from a Yorkville affiliate, a standing arrangement to issue shares for cash over time rather than a lump sum sitting in an account. Trump Media's interim chief executive, Kevin McGurn, said the market for these crypto treasury vehicles had become saturated — enough similar companies had already launched that another one made less sense — and that the split let Trump Media refocus on its media and data-licensing business, including its pending merger with TAE Technologies.

A second, related agreement was also unwound: Crypto.com had been lined up to service planned exchange-traded fund offerings from Yorkville America, and that arrangement is off as well. The companies aren't abandoning their relationship entirely. Rather than building Crypto.com's prediction-market product directly into Truth Social's infrastructure, the two will instead pursue a marketing agreement, where Crypto.com's existing prediction-markets product gets marketed to Truth Social's user base — a lighter-weight partnership than a full technical integration.

Trump Media is not exiting crypto altogether. The company keeps a separate $105 million CRO token purchase it made in September 2025, along with a bitcoin holding of roughly 9,542 BTC — neither of which was part of the terminated deal. The market's initial read was negative for the token itself: CRO fell about 5% in the immediate aftermath of the announcement, and the decline extended to roughly 8% within the following 24 hours as the news continued to circulate.
