Tapestry's move traces to its fiscal 2026 fourth-quarter and full-year results, released on August 13, 2026 ahead of the U.S. open. The owner of Coach and Kate Spade reported $8.0 billion of revenue for the year and diluted earnings per share of $7.27 on a GAAP basis.

The capital return plan is the part carrying the signal. Roughly $1.7 billion returned against $8.0 billion of revenue is more than a fifth of annual sales going back to shareholders. Inside that total, the repurchase figure is held flat year over year at $1.35 billion while the dividend rises 16% — and the two are not equivalent commitments. A repurchase can be quietly slowed in a weak quarter; a raised dividend is much harder to walk back, so moving more of the return into the dividend is the more confident of the two choices.

Guidance for fiscal 2027 is mid-single-digit revenue growth with continued operating margin expansion and low-double-digit earnings-per-share growth. The gap between the first and third of those is largely the repurchase doing its work: the same earnings divided across fewer shares.
