Danaher raised its 2026 profit forecast for the third time this year after a third-quarter earnings beat, and the stock rose on Wednesday after a sharp swing before the open. The guidance reached the MoveSurge news feed at 06:02:12 ET on October 21, 2026, and in thin premarket trading DHR rose 2.24% in the first minute, from $223.00 to $228.00, before cooling to a 0.90% gain ten minutes later. The stock turned lower before the open, according to Investing.com, then rallied during the session. At 16:06 ET it was at $234.02, up 4.36% from Tuesday's close of about $224.24.

Adjusted earnings per share were $2.11, against $1.92 expected and $1.89 a year earlier. Danaher now expects 2026 adjusted EPS of $8.57 to $8.62, up from $8.45 to $8.60 and above the $8.51 analysts expected. The same release lowered its full-year forecast for core revenue growth, which leaves out acquisitions and currency effects, to about 2.5% from 3% to 4% in July.

Revenue rose 8.5%, but most of that came from acquisitions, which added 6.5 percentage points. Core revenue grew 3.0%, at the top of the 2% to 3% range Danaher gave in July. Excluding respiratory testing, core growth was 5.5%, up from 4.5% in the second quarter. That figure is the one the company and analysts focused on, because sales of respiratory tests fell to about $350 million from about $500 million a year earlier, according to the call.

The core growth forecast has come down at each 2026 report, mainly because respiratory testing has shrunk.

Higher profit forecast, lower growth forecast

All three of Danaher's 2026 reports have raised the earnings forecast while trimming the growth forecast. In April the EPS range went to $8.35 to $8.55 with core growth held at 3% to 6%. In July it went to $8.45 to $8.60 while core growth was cut to 3% to 4%. Wednesday's release raised EPS again and put core growth at about 2.5%, though Danaher still expects mid-single-digit growth outside respiratory and guided to about 3.0% core growth in the fourth quarter, or 4% to 5% excluding respiratory.

The reaction was the opposite of July's. In the first minute after the second-quarter release on July 21, 2026, DHR fell 7.20% from $201.51 in our data, after Danaher cut the growth forecast and said more than $100 million of bioprocessing shipments had slipped into 2027. This time the cut was smaller and the business that drove July's drop improved: chief financial officer Matt Gugino said bioprocessing orders grew by a mid-teens percentage. Sales in China rose by a high-single-digit percentage in all three segments.

Diagnostics sales rose 17.0% in total, mostly because of Masimo, the $9.9 billion acquisition that closed on June 10, 2026; the third quarter was its first full quarter inside Danaher. It was also the first quarter for chief executive Julie Sawyer Montgomery, who took over from Rainer Blair on October 1. "We delivered better-than-expected third quarter revenue, earnings and cash flow," she said in the release.
